Portable Infrared Traffic Logger Instrument

The Infra-Red Traffic Logger (TIRTL) is a non-intrusive traffic data procurement system, used for vehicle counting, speed measurement, lane direction, vehicle classification and determining direction of travel. Vehicle detection and data logging in TIRTL is engineered based on the time-stamped ‘Beam Events’ generated while a passing vehicle interrupts the beam pathway between receiver and transmitter components of TIRTL installed at either side of the roadway. This instrument has an Ethernet interface for network connectivity, a GPS unit for time synchronization and a 3G/GPRS/GSM modem to remotely connect with a control centre for real time and statistical logging applications. Some of the real field applications of the system are data collection, incident detection, speed and red-light enforcement, toll audits, heavy vehicle enforcement, over-height and over-length vehicle detection, vehicle parking bay availability, bus-way enforcement, and bus-lane monitoring.
